Sheathing Types

Scope sheathing options tailored for durability, performance, and application requirements.

Selecting the right sheathing material for rigid, semi-rigid, and fiberscope systems.

Scope sheathing is the material that comes into direct contact with the inspection environment and must be matched to both the application and durability requirements. Rigid and semi-rigid scopes are most commonly sheathed in 304 stainless steel tubing, providing strength, corrosion resistance, and consistent performance.

Fiberscopes are available with a wider range of sheathing options to accommodate different operating conditions. Plastic sheathing choices include nylon 6, nylon 11, Teflon, and polyimide, offering flexibility, chemical resistance, and smooth passage through narrow or curved channels.

For environments requiring increased durability, reinforced sheathings can include nylon braid, stainless braid, or tungsten braid for added external protection. Internal monocoil reinforcement can also be used for improved crush resistance. Illumination bundles are typically sheathed in squarelock stainless steel tubing with an outer layer of nylon or PVC for protection, ensuring consistent light transmission and mechanical resilience.
